Geography and weather

The Senegalese territory lies between 12°8 and 16°41 northern latitude and 11°21 and 17°32 Western longitude. Its western point (peninsula of Cape Vert, and particularly the site of Dakar Med Club) constitutes the greatest Western part of all continental Africa.

The country extends on 196.192 km2. If we compare it to Mali and Mauritania, Senegal is a tiny country.

The weather is a sahelien type with:

-a rainy season from June to October with a peak in August, September and different according to the latitude (less rain in the north compared to the south). It is the period of monsoons;

-a dry season from November to June with continental winds.

The temperatures follow the seasons:

-in the summer, period of rain, the temperatures raise to their maximum;

-but decrease in January.

On the littoral, the sea brings freshness, the temperatures vary from 16° to 30° but in the centre and east of Senegal temperatures can go up to 41°. During the winter in Europe, Senegal becomes an appreciated destination where tourist activity increases.
